This a condition that many of us suffer from – the adrenal gland is our stress gland.
We can experience a lack of emotional and/or physical reserve.
The sources of stress can be many, such as physical (exercising too strenuously) and/or physiological (drinking too much caffeine and not knowing how tired we really are). Sometimes we continue to push ourselves beyond our reserve. Many times we are our own worst enemy because we take on too many projects and become overwhelmed when we cant' get everything done. Some patients experience life as if they are “living on egg shells” due to abusive relationships that could be current or from the past. One symptom of adrenl fatigue is the inability to sleep. This can make the condition worse and become a vicious cycle.
Diet is one of the biggest causes of adrenal fatigue. Eating too many carbohydrates can cause reactive hypoglycemia which in turn causes the adrenal gland to overwork. This can also happen with consumption of alcohol, coffee (especially the Starbuck’s specialty drinks), energy bars and other snacks that we partake in for afternoon pick-me-ups!
